Preparing Your Roof for Hurricane Season

As hurricane season approaches, we here at Three C’s Roofing have some useful tips to prepare your roof for another season:

1. Clear debris such as branches and leaves from the surface area of your roof. This will keep debris from being picked up in heavy winds and damaging vehicles or windows.  
2. Make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear to allow efficient water flow away from your roof and home. 
3. Make sure add-on fixtures such as satellite dishes, antennas, and solar panels are secure. 
4. Trim back any tree branches or vegetation growing above the roof line.  This will help keep strong winds from sweeping the face of your shingle roof causing damage and loss of granules from your shingles.  It can also help prevent branches from punching holes through your roof cracking your tile roofing or damaging your metal roofing panels. 
5. Depending the age of your roof, consider having a replacement before the season begins.  Advancements in shingles and underlayments in the last twenty years have been significant in wind resistance and durable materials.
6. Take photos to document the condition of your roof before the season and check your insurance policy to ensure you have the coverage needed for your situation. 
7. Finally, have a qualified roofer, such as Scott at Three C’s Roofing, do a roof inspection to address and repair any deficiencies prior to the start of hurricane season.
