When skylights come up with customers, I usually get comments such as,” that’s just a leak waiting to happen” or “we’ve had problems in the past”, in those instances problems can be attributed to improper installation rather than skylight defects. In reality skylights are a wonderful way introduce natural light into your home. Three C’s Roofing can assist you with which sizes and types will best suit your needs.
The main categories are skylight and sun tunnels. Skylights are basically a window in your roof, open to the view of the sky. Some skylights have blinds in between the layers of glass so you can close them as needed. Some open like a window to allow air flow through the home. Skylights have 30% tinting and will come in impact or non-impact glass. The basic skylight sizes are 2’x2′ or 2’x4′. They can also be custom made for bigger sizes to suit your needs.
While a sun tunnel will look the same as a skylight from the roof, the inside generally has a round, plastic lens that allows light to shine in without being able to see through it. The top portion on the roof has no tinting and will also come in impact or non-impact glass like skylights. The sun tunnel will have a reflective tube that runs from the glass portion on the roof to the inside lens to help direct the light to the lens. Sun tunnels come in standard sizes of 14″ and 22″.
If your home already has skylights and sun tunnels, Three C’s Roofing can replace them alone or with a new roof installation. Skylights can be installed on any type of roof: shingles, tile, metal or flat roofing. We can also install skylights or sun tunnels where you don’t already have them though you will need a separate contractor for the inside work. And, if you really don’t want skylights in your home, we can also eliminate them at the roof, but this would also require a separate contractor for the inside work.
