Gaco Deck is a water based Elastomeric deck coating that is a great option for your small flat deck areas. Gaco deck is a durable, waterproof area that is nonslip making it ideal for places you would like to have a walkable and livable surface which isn’t an option with conventional flat roofing material.
At Three C’s Roofing, we use Gaco Deck because we found it to be the most reliable of the options for a livable surface. Gaco Deck can be used over almost any surface such as plywood, lightweight concrete or even existing tile. During this particular installation, the deck was tile, but I wanted to create a smooth surface. I removed the railings of the deck and installed 1/2″ plywood over the existing deck.
After installing the plywood base, I sealed any joints with a quality silicone caulking. The walls and joints are then covered with a fiber tape to create a flashing. After the tape cures, a complete coat of Gaco Deck primer is applied. This is left to dry for several hours after which a second coat of primer is applied. The final coat of primer is left to cure for 24 hours to ensure a proper cure.
After the primer layer is completely cured, I apply the first of two layers of topcoat to the deck. After the first layer is cured a final layer of topcoat is applied. This topcoat is mixed with Gaco Grip Texture Granules to create the nonslip surface. The surface is walkable 24 hours after final installation, but 72-hour cure time is required for the addition of furniture to the deck.
